UFC

UFC stands for the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and is a United States based organization that features mixed martial arts competitions. It is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, and was begun as a tournament to find the best fighters in the world, regardless of the style of martial art that they practiced.

Originally, the UFC was known as a no holds barred fighting championship, and fights were often quite bloody and brutal because of it. The Violence has gone down a little with the addition of new rules to turn the fighting back from spectacle to sport and reduce accusations of unnecessary brutality.

The UFC became sanctioned by athletic commissions, and has gone from “human cockfighting” to a legitimate sporting event, gladly carrying the mixed martial arts banner in order to gain further social acceptance. The UFC can now be seen in any country that receives satellite television broadcasts and 35 countries without satellite, and is undergoing a huge surge in popularity in the United States as it takes a place on pay-per-view television and challenges the masses to choose a side and cheer on their prospects for the Ultimate Fighting Champion
